Kangaroo Band Needs a Trombone
My students need a new trombone
Imagine wanting to learn music, but knowing your parents can't afford to get you an instrument.
My students attend an inner city public school, in an economically depressed area.
My students worry about what they are going to eat next, and where are they going to live when their family gets evicted, again. For most students, school is the most secure aspect in their lives.
For the last few years we have offered a Band program for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. This program has steadily gained popularity among the students. The challenge is acquiring enough instruments to keep up with the growing demand. This program has given students a creative outlet, and an avenue for continued growth and learning. A new trombone will help me get another student off my wait list.
If my students are going to make it through college, they are going to have to rely on grants, loans, and scholarships.
Playing an instrument gives them one more tool in their "bag" to help make this dream a reality. hide»
