Have you ever experienced the joy of sitting with a child as they listen to a story on the computer or i-device? Have you heard them giggle with the music playing behind a word building game? Can you even imagine 15 kids doing it at the same time with 2 pairs of working headphones? We need help!
I teach in a classroom with 20 SUPERHERO's each and every day.
They are not afraid to take control of their learning and thrive on discovering new things.
We are in a technology rich environment and these kindergarteners are masters of navigating their way through.
My Project
I teach in a classroom of 20 learners with 20 different learning plans. Every day includes opportunities to listen to reading using ebooks and ibooks. Learners work on phonemic awareness using i-devices to build words they first listen to. Research is made available through age appropriate programs that will read nonfiction text aloud. This gives early readers the ability to hear text they cannot yet decode. They take great pride in sharing their favorite stories with others or moving up levels in independent reading. We need new headphones to use during all of this reading so that these kids can focus on their work. They are SUPERHERO's in every way when it comes to taking control of their learning allowing me to facilitate with the skills that they need to master. In order to have this independence we have to work together with as few distractions as possible. This will be so much easier to do with some new equipment. Our headphones are down to two working pairs.
This project will make a difference in my classroom because every child should have the opportunity to have undivided attention and independent learning time.
It will take distraction away from other learners and provide sanity for their teacher.
