Technology is a necessity in the 21st Century classroom! In my dream classroom, each of my kindergarten students would have their own laptop readily available to support literacy and math learning. Unfortunately, my classroom has only 1 student computer and all students don't get to use it daily.
I teach in a K-3 school with a population of 600 students and 35 teacher units.
Approximately 40% of our student population receive free or reduced lunch. Due to cutbacks and proration, our funding has been cut severely. Our schools are funded through tax dollars which have been drastically reduced due to a decline in the economy directly affecting local spending in our county. Our state funding in Alabama continues to be cut as well. We are often looking for creative ways to get funding which will provide our students with a research-based and data-driven education.
There are 20 kindergarten students in my classrooms and many of my students need support with basic reading and math skills. We have great interactive software to use, but with only one computer in the classroom, it's difficult to ensure that all students get an equal opportunity to access this software. Funding this project would make my students smile, because each of them would be able to use the computers daily.
My Project
My students will benefit from having a laptop learning station to enhance their reading and math skills. Students will be able to engage in fun interactive literacy and math games during small groups. Having a laptop learning station will have a tremendous impact on student learning. My students will be able to identify letters/sounds of the alphabet, sight words, read sentences, recognize numbers, colors, shapes and more.
It is my desire to provide an equal opportunity for all of my students to access computers in the classroom daily.
Having 2 laptop computers would increase technology use in our class and support student learning in the areas of reading and math. With your help, I can provide my students with a technology rich classroom. My students will be excited and motivated to learn important skills using a laptop.
