My Students

The CSS junior varsity cheerleading team is composed of talented, dedicated, intelligent, and diverse students who travel from all over the New York City Metropolitan area to attend. Our school is a select STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in partnership with Columbia University. We are the only select STEM school that represents the true diverse margins of New York City.

Our junior varsity team is in its second year and continues to represent our school in the community!

Since our start, we competed and won several competitions! Like our varsity team, we not only compete and support our school but we also do work in our community. Last year we performed at the Harlem Shamrock Festival, a 5K run for charity. This year we also performed at Columbia University. Next year we hope to do more community events to promote our school pride and cheer.

The enthusiasm our team has not only for their school but also their community enjoys sharing their tradition of staying fierce!

My Project

Through this project, our students will experience various learning opportunities. First, they will learn what it is like to fundraise for a large event. They will learn communication skills and economic skills to help them and their teammates reach their goal. Second, through this experience, they will learn new cheerleading skills through workshops and the performance itself. Third, students will be able to meet and network with individuals from various parts of the country and from communities very different from theirs.

Fourth, they will be able to build team rapport, which is extremely important in cheer.

As they are learning stunts they need to trust each other and one of the best ways to do that is to better get to know each other. This even will provide them the space to do so.

In addition, this event would allow our team to represent our school in front of the whole nation! Our team will get to showcase our stunt and dance talents in addition to exhibiting the vast diversity that exists at our school! More importantly, by going through this experience together, our team will be able to build more unity!
