My students are sixth graders, attending an intermediate school, in Connecticut. They come from all areas of town and are mostly from an urban setting. Most of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In our district, funding is extremely limited, and access to resources is almost non-existent. I want my classroom to be a place where my students can comfortably learn, in a safe and exciting environment, but I also want to give them every opportunity possible to help them succeed.
My Project
In an effort to save money, our district took away all classroom printers and now we must send all of our copying and printing needs to a copy center. While we understand the need to "go green," it's very impractical to not be able to print from the classroom. We have been fortunate to receive a printer from DonorsChoose already. We simply need more paper and ink to continue printing. It's so helpful to have the ability to make a quick copy of a form, permission slip, or missing homework. Our school is large and there isn't a lot of time to run downstairs to the office to make a "quick copy". Additionally, students work hard on their writing projects which often involve typing an expository or persuasive essay. Allowing them to print as soon as they are done gives the students the chance to get immediate feedback instead of waiting for the copy center to deliver it 2 days later.
By donating to this project, you are providing students with the opportunity to immediately display their hard work.
You will also give a teacher the ability to quickly tailor lessons to students' needs and make my job just a little bit easier. Thank you!
