My Students

I am a special education teacher working with students in grades pre-k to 2nd grade. I provide special education support and direct teaching for nearly 20 students across the four grade levels, collaborating with the different general education classroom teachers to best meet the individual academic, social, and behavioral needs of the students.

Despite their disabilities, my students come into my class smiling and eager to learn every day!

Watching their smiles and excitement when they achieve a goal makes my job the most rewarding ever! My students come from a predominantly low income/high poverty district with high special education and ELL student populations. Students with disabilities require specialized strategies to allow them to become successful in the school setting. My students may need explicit instructions repeated, which may include extended time and using different techniques and tools that are paired with multi-sensory experiences that allow the students to stay engaged.

My Project

In my class, we work with limited supplies due to the lack of funds available from our school and families, which hinders our academic progress. I try my hardest to provide some of the materials we need, but I cannot always fund all the materials necessary. We always need copy paper to copy various learning activities, newsletters, and our writing paper templates that we use daily.

Crayons, markers, glue sticks, and pencils are also needed all year long to engage students in rigorous instructional activities.

Simple office supplies are always in need due to the ages of the students in my class and the lack of instructional supplies like card stock for flashcards, hole punches, and binder rings.
