Help me give my students a classroom with supplies that aide in their learning. The copy paper I'm in need of is very important as my room doesn't have a working SmartBoard or projector.
My seventh graders are a fun group! They work collaboratively and interactively. They are very vocal about their feelings towards assigned work and sometimes need a large burst of motivation.
With my school's recent budget cuts, our district cannot purchase many supplies.
I purchase many items out of pocket but in no time, replenishment is needed. My students miss out on visual learning to some extent due to the lack of these materials.
Many of my students come from low income households and many struggle with the subject that I teach: English. Because of that, I try everything I can to engage them and they are quite receptive when engaged. Out of three classes of seventh graders, one is mainly special needs. These students require a little more differentiation and special attention than the others.
My Project
There are a few things that teachers can use to take regular days from good to great. For example, markers are important as they allow students to complete projects without having to have their own coloring supplies. It is such a gift to be able to help them by having simple supplies like markers in my room for their use.
I hold copy paper as my most important request as it is the center of all of my students' learning.
I don't have a SmartBoard and students learn much of their ELA through printed and copied lesson planning. With 65 students, copy paper goes so quickly. With your help, I can make models, rubrics, and handouts with ease.
Large Post-Its are typically used for my own organization skills, but this also benefits the students. Having three classes and a division between general ed and special needs, organization is so important.
Lastly, I request grouping pencils so that classes can run smoother and students can participate despite their fear of volunteering. I've used grouping pencils in the past and they truly hold a class accountable and support participation. This school year, I was moved and have a larger group of 7th graders and need more pencils to use them in the same way.
Although my classroom is missing so many simple items that I once took for granted, I choose those that I feel will directly benefit my new group of students the most. Thank you for considering us.
