Just the Basics
My students need basic classroom supplies like hand sanitizer, tissue, and binders.
Imagine trying to teach a kid how to stay organized when they don't have a binder, a notebook, or a pencil. My students are all from low-income families that cannot provide basic school supplies to their child. Our school also lacks funding for these items.
My kids are from inner-city communities that feed into a failing school district.
They are smart, funny, and willing to learn but they haven't been given much of an opportunity to do so. My school is trying to combat years of poor education, and I want the best for my students. I know they are capable of learning, and now I want them to know it as well.
The resources I'm requesting don't sound glamorous - paper and tissues aren't exactly the stuff of great stories. But these supplies will make or break my ability to teach my students well. At the end of last year, running out of paper was a daily stress. I couldn't make copies of my students' tests, let alone their worksheets to practice the essential skills I was covering in class. The cleaning supplies might be the most underrated necessity in the classroom. Our building janitors were laid off last year, and with one person covering a large building with hundreds of middle school children, our individual rooms simply do not get cleaned. I need materials to keep the space germ-free, especially tissues, which we have to provide and I frequently run out of.
These supplies are the most basic supplies I can think of, and we do not have any of them.
Your donation will help me teach by taking away the stress over the "small" stuff, and allowing me to concentrate on building relationships with kids, teaching effective lessons, and pushing my kids academically!
