Ms. Toney from Kenner LA is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need basic classroom supplies. Many of my parents purchase as many materials as possible but often fall short, no student should go without basic supplies
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The biggest challenge for teachers at my school is to increase students' motivation to learn and succeed. Because of their different difficult situations they experience in their lives, it is sometimes hard to keep them focused on their school work. We try to create a family-like atmosphere.
Most of them receive free or reduced lunch.
Some of them do not have enough money to buy school supplies. Some of them need to walk to school because they do not have enough money for a bus. Many of our students deal with different family issues that greatly impact their academic and behavioral performance. My students experience parents getting divorced, a lack of parents, being raised by young parents, being homeless, babysitting siblings, working to help out their parents, etc. Most of our students are Hispanic. I have a good number of students with special education needs as well as ELL students. Many of our students will be the first in their families to go to college
I am requesting basic classroom supplies, such as student backpacks, clipboards, rulers, erasers, pencil sharpeners, and colored markers. Backpacks are essential for students to carry their homework to and from school. Students use clipboards to keep their work organized on their desks and to hold a daily planner that helps students learn essential time-management skills so necessary for study. I have also requested large clipboard for group projects where students make maps and work together on presentation boards. My classroom needs an mobile student paper organizer for students to keep their projects, corrected classwork, and take home notes similar to a mailbox in an office so everyone has easy access to their important papers. With these basic classroom supplies and student paper organizer, my students will start the year with the essential tools for learning in an organized classroom!
Help me get my classroom ready for September!
My students are eager to return to school and will be delighted to find their own backpack and school supplies for them to use and a well supplied classroom with organizational tools that work!
