Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What I love about my students is they have always amazed me with their copious desire to learn. My students are passionate, motivated, and supportive of one another within our classroom community. They are curious, brave, and inspirational with every challenge they face. I learn from them, push them when they think they can’t, and believe in them. In return, these students continue to fuel my desire to be a better teacher for them every day.
Each and every one of my students come with their own story - some comedic, some tragic, some wonderful- but they all come with the capability of writing their own endings and I feel privileged to be a part of each of their life stories.
I want my students to have all the opportunities possible to keep fueling their enthusiasm for learning. Being in a low socioeconomic area makes it challenging to be able to always provide these students with what they need to be successful due to a lack of resources and lack of supplies. My students are hardworking, talented and each unique in what they bring to the classroom each day!
My Project
The Bridge to Terabithia is a great piece of literature that I would love for my students to become involved in because it addresses a myriad of adolescent issues that many of my students deal with today. I feel my students will be able to relate to this novel and it will help to evoke a love of reading. It also contains many literary elements that are needed to teach my students and rather than teaching them from a textbook, this book provides a more entertaining, engaging, and thought-provoking version of these "standards". I feel my students will be inspired by this novel and will want to further their literature experience.
