Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Due to the budget crunch, each teacher at my school has been allotted one case of copy paper (no colored paper) for the rest of the year. It's not enough. It's a shame that I have to even ask for such basic supplies. I would really appreciate your support. Thank you.
I teach 6th grade math and science at a high-need, low income, predominately Spanish speaking middle school.
I have a math intervention class where I teach 3rd and 4th grade math to 6th grade students. I work with 14 special education students, 3 autistic students, 2 Spanish only speaking students, and one legally blind student. They need all of the extra help and support that I can give them in order to bridge the gap.
My Project
I am teaching students who haven't learned in the traditional way. We sing, dance and do art in order to make math come alive. With the colored paper we can do even more. My students need variety and colored paper (which sounds silly) makes a difference in classroom management. I can say, "take out the pink paper," and they would know what I was talking about and it would make finding it much easier. Every little bit helps when it comes to working with challenging students.
I love my job!
I just need a little bit of support in order to teach in a more interesting way. My students already have so many things stacked against them and all they really want to do is be successful at school. I can accomplish this with the basic supplies that we all need to make learning and teaching easier.
