Do you remember being bullied in school? If not, have you ever witnessed someone else being bullied? Middle school years are difficult enough on students. Bullying has become more of a problem than ever in schools. Our school is taking a stand against bullying.
I teach in a rural community in Tennessee.
The students for the most part are struggling with the middle school years. I find myself most days being not only a teacher but a substitute parent to the students.
Bullying is a problem in our school. Verbal and physical bullying at this age is common. I talk to the students in study hall and from time to time in science class about this growing problem. If I can provide books and other resources to reinforce my discussions, I know the students would benefit from the experience.
My Project
I will use the resources to teach students how important it is not to bully others. The supplies can be used to research bullying and the problems that can result from bullying. Students will learn that bullying on any level is bad. Hopefully, they will choose not to bully or stick up for others that may be victims.
My students are 6th graders. I have requested the books, "A Smart Kids Guide to Online Bullying," and "Amelia's Bully Survival Guide." Also, I have requested a "Bully Free Zone Jar." In addition, I have requested an Amazon Kindle Fire with case for students to research bullying and its impact. This project will help them understand that bullying is wrong. Since this is their first year in middle school, the students will learn how to cope with a major problem they will encounter and possibly experience in these trying school years.
The Amazon Kindle Fire and bullying books will help educate students on the dangers of bullying and the lasting impact it can have on a student.
I have seen what bullying can do to kids and it upsets me. We are taking a stand against bullying at our school. These materials will help in the fight against bullying.
