This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a quaint little school in a neighborhood that feels like a small town in a big city.
At our school, classes are small and everyone is treated like family.
The majority of students come from low-income households and have limited resources, yet we have an extremely active PTA. We take great pride in the level of parental involvement at our school. My students are bright and engaged. They have a love of school and have a love of learning.
My Project
I am requesting materials that support a multi-sensory approach to reading. I would like two sets of decodable readers that align with the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach to reading. OG is an instructional approach intended for people who have difficulty reading, spelling, and writing with dyslexia. The books and the multi-sensory letter and word building resources are well suited for teaching students who have dyslexia or other learning disabilities. The OG decodable reading books and multi-sensory resources provide an inclusive approach to literacy as all students benefit from the systematic organization of language. Students who have a reading learning disability are able to stay in whole group instruction because their needs are met in the classroom. All we need are books that are "just right" for everyone.
