My school is located in the small, rural town and I have the great privilege of being a kindergarten teacher. Kindergarten is such a critical foundational year for beginning learners. It is such an important year for growing my students' love of school. My students are amazing individuals that love to learn. They are a unique group that care for one another and consider our classroom as a "team".
These students are kind, compassionate and respectful to others.
They not only give back to one another but also to our community. We fill one another's buckets by pointing out what we like about each other and pointing out what their peers do well. This is a special group of kids that will grow to do wonderful things! I cannot wait to get books and materials into their hands to foster their desire to learn.
My Project
At this time, my students are engaged in remote learning. As a result, they do not have access to appropriately leveled books at home. It is so important that beginning readers are given a wide variety of books at their level to foster interest and a love of reading. I want to provide many titles of engaging fiction and nonfiction emergent readers in four different kindergarten levels so that I can accomplish this for every student in their learning. My students will have these books in their personal book bags once they return to in-person learning. In the meantime, they will be able to access these books through a pick up and return system our school has put in place to get books and materials in students' homes.
