My students need fiction and non-fiction books on their level to enjoy during their "read to self" time. They use this time to practice reading with fluency & sight words.

My students read to themselves on a daily basis. My classroom books have been loved and are in need of constant repair. They look forward to trading in their books on a weekly basis. However, a better selection would be welcome.
My 22 students come from diverse backgrounds.
We celebrate the many languages spoken in our classroom, including Spanish and Arabic. We are an urban Title 1 school in Connecticut. Many of our students come from single family homes. As a school, we are striving to create a culture of reading. After our weekly Community Meeting, my students are enthusiastic about Drop Everything and Read.
My Project
Hey Diddle, Diddle _______. Sadly, many of my students cannot fill in that blank! With your help these nursery rhymes will be passed down to another generation. Nursery rhymes have also been shown to help with fluency, vocabulary and rhyming. I am asking for books that are predictable to help them gain confidence in their skills. In addition, 80% of the text that we read contains sight words, and to support this skill, the books I've chosen include many of those needed words, while also teaching them how to decode.
Help me to help my students as, "They will need literacy to feed their imaginations so they can create the world of the future."-International Reading Association
The project will have a lasting impact on my classroom for years to come.
