I'm teaching a wonderful group of second graders this year.
The students at our school are hard-working, curious, and enthusiastic learners.
These creative kids are pushing themselves to become better readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and community members. Together they are growing their ability to communicate and collaborate. Every day we learn and grow our knowledge and our mindset. We learn to be flexible thinkers, goal-setters, and problem solvers through our daily interactions with books and with each other. These kids really are our future and they deserve the best.
My Project
To become better readers, kids need to read 20-40 different books at their just-right level. This means that we sometimes need 100-200 titles at each level so that students have different titles to choose from that make them want to read more!
“Research proves that access to books and providing students with choices in what they read improves students’ reading motivation, engagement, and achievement.
A well-curated classroom library offers students the support they need to become lifelong readers.” –Donalyn Miller
Pioneer Valley Books publishes leveled texts that kids love. They have chapter books for lower levels so kids can read chapter books like their peers. Students need access to high-quality texts and Pioneer Valley Books not only support reading development, but also the love of reading with different series books that kids enjoy.
