Help me give my students another iPad to enhance learning through technology in our classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I will have 20 fantastic and energetic pre-K students in Baltimore City. They come from various cultural backgrounds and languages, creating a truly unique and diverse classroom. Many of my students are English Language Learners and/or Refugees. Many of them lack access to technology in the home which motivates us to provide these tools for our students even more. They are funny, dedicated, brilliant, kind, inquiring minds who rise to any academic challenge presented to them. My students are 4 and 5 year olds who need stimulating and enthralling academic exposures in order to help solidify the content they are learning. We learn together in a large PreK-2 grade school that does the best it can for our highly impoverished population. Our school has a large ELL population and high needs for differentiation and authentic learning experiences. Our school is a family of teachers, support staff and learners that truly care about one another and work together to deliver the best for each and every one of our students.
With the addition of another iPad into our classroom, we will be one of the only classrooms in the school that has access to such technology. My students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. An iPad helps students who are kinesthetic and visual learners open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom as well as build twenty first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world. My students will be able to work in centers with the iPads, writing, reading, learning phonemic awareness skills, working with math manipulatives and more. They will be able to play several learning games that help literacy skills such as letter recognition, sound identification and sight words. Students will also be exposed to various math games that enhance their one to one correspondence, counting and cardinality etc.
