My students live in a very high poverty area. Many of my students that come from low income homes benefit greatly from community programs and donations. Our families work very hard and do the best they can for their kids. I strive to do my part and give my students every opportunity possible to break the cycle.
I want my students to have the best because they are the BEST!
Students in my class work hard and show great empathy to our very diverse student population. Students of extreme special needs enjoy attending our school and being part of our student-centered learning environment. We have classmates with various learning difficulties including ADHD, ODD, OCD, Sensory, SLD, Autism, and hearing impaired.
My students enjoy discovering new knowledge through STEM activities, integrated Problem Based Learning curriculum, and co-teaching. I hope with your help to add more ways to help these great kids be successful. Thank you!
My Project
Students have a difficult time selecting a book or being interested in a new series if it is shoved randomly on a bookcase. I have had books destroyed and lost by students not being able to easily locate and return books. I want to be able to showcase all of my books and make it easier for students to select a reading level and genre perfect for them.
To keep the spark of reading alive in my students I need to reorganize and freshen up my class library.
I will do this by putting books into easy to recognize bins identified with a color matching my students' reading level. I will also use bins to protect class sets during our book studies making it easier to pull out and put up.
I look forward to having a "Writer's Workshop" for students to create their own stories. It will be a nice addition to our library for kids to read books written by them. It will have special pens, paper, and folders available for students to publish their work. Students become stronger writers by being strong readers. By nurturing both reading and writing I hope my students will find a deep love for books.
