This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are one big, happy family. Our Title I school is home to a large population (92%) of English language learners. My students face many challenges while living in a new country and attempting to learn a new language.
My three classes are filled with 75 eager students who love working together to complete various tasks.
My goal is to make their transition as smooth as possible in hopes of preparing them for great achievement. They are capable of greatness and will achieve.
My Project
Please help me send 230 students to see Just Mercy. This is a monumental field trip that will allow students to witness social justice. Just Mercy is a new film based on the best-selling book by Bryan Stevenson. Students will learn social justice concepts and will be able to engage in rich discussions about the book and movie prior to seeing the movie and after returning from the movie theater. This movie is a powerful and thought-provoking true story, Just Mercy follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson and his history-making battle for justice. After the movie students will have a luncheon where we will have a round table discuss Just Mercy.
