Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are all part of a Performing and Visual Arts magnet. I believe that both arts and sciences are equally important to my students' education, and technology in the classroom can completely reshape and take their experience beyond the traditional pen and paper classroom.
My students come from a diverse collection of backgrounds and cultures.
The majority of students at my school are low-income students who don't normally have access to technology and extra resources in the home.
My educational background comes from a program that stresses and teaches empathy and compassion as a key part of teaching. Students that learn to accept other students and embrace the many differences that each person brings to the classroom become happier and healthier.
My Project
This project is an opportunity for our students at PHMS to see the film JUST MERCY, a new film based on the bestselling book by Bryan Stevenson. Just Mercy is a 2019 American legal drama film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, and Brie Larson. It tells the true story of Walter McMillian, who with the help of young defense attorney Bryan Stevenson appeals his murder conviction. Students will use what they learn in class discussions regarding history, social justice, filmmaking, acting, and other topics.
