As a magnet school of choice in my district, the students in my school are very diverse! They come from all different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and neighborhoods. Yet, they all have one thing in common: they are committed to receiving the best education by giving their best effort.
My favorite characteristic of my school is that students motivate and encourage one another to always give their best effort and to never give up until they reach their goal.
Learning is the "cool" thing to do!
My students have a fully-funded Donor's Choose field trip experience to the National Museum for Peace & Justice and the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama I spoke with the museum and they let me know that a curriculum/discussion guide has just been released for this book. It was suggested that we read and discuss this before before our trip to make this the most meaningful learning experience. We would love to do this, but need copies of the book.
We are a Bicentennial School and my students are engaged in history- reading this book will improve their literacy and hands-on learning experience when we travel to Montgomery!
Our Bicentennial Projects involve my students preserving local oral histories through video production. My students are also designing and creating a mural that will be painted in the main foyer of our school to give a visual representation of these stories and Alabama history.
