Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a great class of students within the Paterson Public School system. All of my students happen to be on the Autism Spectrum. I am inspired every day by my students' enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. The look of pride on their faces when they master the skills they are learning is priceless. I love coming to work every day. I have truly been blessed to be able to share in my students' learning journey! They have proven capable of so much more than most people have given them credit for. With your support, the sky is truly the limit for my students.
My Project
I teach in a school district where the majority of my students are African American and Hispanic. We have many biographies describing the life, work , and contributions of African Americans and Hispanic people. What we don't have, are storybooks about everyday characters, heroes, and heroines that are represented as minority children.
My students are becoming avid readers and are beginning to question why so few of the characters in their story books are like them.
I would like to create a classroom library that better represents the students in my class. All children love to read about characters that inspire and excite them. I would like to provide those inspirational books to my students.
