We are a small rural school district. We work hard to provide opportunities for our students that meet all of their needs, both academically and social-emotionally.
All of my students have disabilities or need increased levels of academic support and they are absolutely incredible.
They come to my room for extra support on top of their typical classes. These students don't let the increased work deter them, they continue to rise to the daily challenges. Our students are from a variety of backgrounds and not all of them have access to the same experiences.
My students all struggle to read, some still enjoy it while others are very reluctant. My books in verse have been flying off the shelf this year.
For several of my struggling readers I'm running out of books for them simply because so many are signed out and those that have been returned they have read.
I would love some more books in verse for those struggling readers. I want to keep them coming back for more!
My more reluctant readers do not see why school (or reading) is important. I would love some non-fiction books for teens that they can read. This would connect reading to their life and give them some reading motivation. It also would further our discussion on why school is important and why they should take a role in their learning.
