Just Like Me: Enhancing Our Multicultural Classroom Library
Help me give my students Frybread: A Native American Family Story, Little Night/Nochechita, Bee-Bim Bop! and more picture books that inspire children to see themselves and others in the magical world of children's literature.
My students are a curious, engaged group of young learners. They enjoy creative play in nature and the classroom, learning through hands-on experiences, and engaging in deep, learning expeditions.
In my class, we regularly celebrate the many ways we are alike and different, creating an inclusive environment for all students.
We strive to work together to create a cohesive classroom community where our strengths are celebrated and our areas of growth are developed.
Working with the youngest learners in my school brings me joy. Nothing is better than laughing with, learning with, and exploring with five and six-year-olds every day.
My Project
“All children deserve books in which they can see themselves and the world in which they live reflected. Multicultural literature belongs in every classroom and library -- on the shelves and in the hands of children, librarians, and teachers.” -Cooperative Children’s Book Center. Through my own equity work and through the support of organizations like Colorful Pages Coalition, I know it is important to represent all children in my classroom library.
Colorful Pages Coalition reminds us that creating a representative classroom library "is an important step towards achieving the real goal: equity for ALL our area’s children—not just a select few."
My students can be found looking at and reading books throughout the day. It is important that the books they are exposed to are mirrors of themselves as well as windows into the worlds of others. Your support of this project will help continue the growth of my classroom library into a space that more readily represents the beauty of diversity surrounding us.
