My students are growing, learning and making lifelong friends in a small community within a great little school. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, questioners and hard workers. They come into the room each morning with excitement on their faces and eager to learn new innovative things.
Our Pre-K through 12 school has an average class size of 12.
This community is comprised mainly of farmers and ranchers. Our location is very secluded. We have very few academic resources available. Traveling is required for day-to-day needs such as groceries, gas, clothing, and so on.
Students are faced with many challenges each day. The majority of the students come from poverty and/or single parent homes. Although this is a low socioeconomic community, it is very family oriented and close-knit. We feel that our students deserve the same quality education and resources needed to maximize learning as students at other schools that are not faced with the same economic challenges.
My Project
Since we have been having STEAM Friday, we have had several challenges using LEGO sets to create a variety of projects. The LEGO sets are like the kits we recently used on our field trip to LEGOLAND. We attended a STEM workshop that taught us to create spinning tops and a mechanism that helped them go faster and longer. We are asking for one set that will allow two students to actively build LEGO science creations. The additional kits have the ability to show powered and simple machines with renewable resources as an extension activity. These building LEGO activities will enhance our STEAM area. These resources will be used in daily/weekly STEAM projects and challenges.
We welcome these LEGO resources to give us the opportunity to have more challenging STEAM skills and "hands-on" activities for our students.
Preparing our girls and boys for a world full of new technology is a big part of their early school career that connects to STEM.
By donating to this project, you will be supporting boys and girls by giving additional technology to all of our students. You will help make a difference because neither the school nor I have more funds to purchase these additional resources for our students. Your donation will make this happen in our classroom!
