This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I have the pleasure of teaching first grade students at a Title 1 school, who are eager to learn and love reading.
Most of my students do not have nonfiction books on their reading levels in their homes or our school. When given the opportunity to view nonfiction books my students are mesmerized by the information they read.
Presently our district does not have the funds to provide nonfiction books for groups of students reading on the levels I have chosen.
Students have difficulty distinguishing the differences between nonfiction and fiction books because there is presently a lack of sufficient non-fiction books for my students on their reading levels. Non-fiction books would provide an opportunity for my students to close the reading comprehension gap between fiction and nonfiction books.
