Kindergarten is an exciting time and my students are in the process of discovering the world around them. My students are from a small, rural community, that is culturally diverse, but also predominately low income, high poverty. They are eager to learn and yearn for new experiences and knowledge despite being limited to the small town where we live. We are a Title I school, but we work hard to excel each day. All of our school’s staff work hard to provide an individualized education as well as a positive learning environment.
My Project
For this project it is important that we have items that will help us be successful in supporting a literacy-rich classroom. I chose to purchase more magnetic letters (and file organizers for storage) to use on magnetic boards so students can create those high-frequency words that are so essential for reading books on their level.
Stick chart paper pads will be used to remind students of strategies that are taught during literacy and writing.
Crayons were chosen so students can create quality pictures to go in their writing stories and books. Erasers will be purchased so that students can fix their mistakes.
Color ink and laminating pouches will be used to print and laminate quality posters and charts to help students remember letters and letter sounds.
