Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are going to change the world! They have big dreams, but as a school we sometimes lack the means to turn these dreams into reality. My students live in a vibrant community that is rich in culture, despite lacking economic resources.
My students are diverse leaders, leading change in the school and community as they advocate for LGBT, immigrant, women, and people of color’s rights.
I believe in my students, and I am committed to providing them with the same resources that students at the most affluent schools receive.
My Project
How do you make history come alive? By stepping into the shoes of historic figures in order to analyze their decisions and motivations! My project-based class is unlike many others, as it is an interactive experience that pushes students beyond their comfort zones while ensuring meaningful learning. My students need costumes that they will wear as they study and reenact the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the Women's Suffrage Movement, and World War I.
In my class, students are often asked to demonstrate their knowledge by performing historic rap battles and skits, and these props and costumes will take their performances to a whole other level!
Imagine students performing in front of one another, wearing colonial hats and powdered wigs as they rap about taxation without representation. Of course they're going to pay attention, laugh, and enjoy their learning experiences! These props and costumes are guaranteed to add an element of fun to our US History class!
