As a child, one of my favorite movies was Mary Poppins. I was always impressed at how she could make any chore fun, such as cleaning the nursery or taking your medicine. If you remember, Mary Poppins made cleaning the nursery fun by turning it into a game. As an adult and a teacher, I now see that Mary Poppins was a genius. Just as Jane Michael enjoyed cleaning the nursery when it was made a game, my students enjoy learning more when it is made into a game. I teach 5th grade at a school where many of my students are English language learners from low income families. They enjoy playing games that are not only fun, but also help to improve their language and vocabulary skills. This is why I am requesting social studies games for the classroom. 5th graders learn about the United States and its history. Many of my students have recently immigrated and do not have much background knowledge in this area. They need the support of fun games that excite thier learning. I feel that the more fun I can make the learning process, the more enjoyable it will be for my students. It may open a door to learning for them that was not open before. Please consider funding this project
