My students need a Math Talk magnetic Fraction Center, Visualize It! Part-Whole Fractions Cards and Solve, Flip and Check Fraction Cards to support their understanding of the concept of fractions.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is comprised of a diverse group of students from inner-city neighborhoods. As is the case with many of these areas, all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. These children are coming to our school anxious to learn and ready to apply their skills.
My third graders, like all 21st-century learners, are prone to be more successful when they have resources to support their learning process.
The daily use of these math materials will give them additional opportunities to learn and explore third grade math concepts.
My Project
The Math Talk Magnetic Fraction Center will support the students as they make initial connections for the various ways to represent a fraction - fraction circle, area model and number line.
By seeing a bar model representation of the fractions, students can solve for a missing number and self-check their answer simply by a flip of the card.
The Visualize It - Part Whole Fraction Cards provide this extra support with hands on practice.
These ready to use materials will assist my students in their development of their foundation in mathematics. Students will gain a deeper understanding of fractions by using these resources independently, with partners and in small groups. These phenomenal materials support the active learning that require critical math concepts to stick!
