Our black and white printer does not differentiate between colors. This makes designing and building our projects difficult because the Lego and K'nex pieces are multi-colored. When projects need to be replicated we do not have photographs of prior projects to use in the design phase.
The school is in a residential suburban area.
We have approximately 550 students. Our school API score is 918 and we are producing students with a high level of academic competency. Students at our school need additional opportunities and challenges to extend their learning in math, science and technology. The Junior Engineers program offers an opportunity to further develop math, science and technology skills.
My Project
The Junior Engineers program offers something for every 3-5 grade child's skill and interest level from beginners, to intermediate, to advanced. We have boys and girls in the program who are interested and motivated to improve their design and building skills. Both the printer and camera will help with that process.
Lego and K'nex pieces are multi-colored. The blueprints and instructions we research and find on line are in color. Printing blueprints to black and white makes the design and building process difficult because instructions are printed in different shades of gray. Having a color laser printer will enable us to print out the detailed project designs and instructions we find on line. The color copies can be compiled and organized for future builders. This equipment will help our Junior Engineers save design and building time. The camera will be used to photograph and document successfully built projects so they can be successfully replicated or enhanced.
With budget cutbacks at our school we are unable to provide the funding necessary to purchase the printer and camera.
Imagine trying to design and build Lego and K'nex projects. The instructions are printed out in black and white, but the pieces you are using are in color. The color printer and camera will help our program to better meet student needs.
