My Students

I have a classroom of 20-22 excited first graders who are excited about learning and getting back to school! They are creators, writers, and readers ready to take on the big challenge of first grade.

These students will be an active group in need of an area rug to help create a classroom community and help with small group and individual work.

These kids come from a small town of only about 1,800 people, but have big dreams!! This area rug will help create a community with students and create a structured spot for all students to come together.

My Project

As a first year teacher, I am constantly purchasing things to create a welcoming and inviting space for my students to learn and grow. Being in a small, rural school, our funds are limited and most materials in classrooms are bought by teachers themselves. I would love a large, colorful rug as a spot for morning meetings and a place for students to read around the room.

With a classroom rug, we will spend time on it building classroom community with our mornings meetings, as well as use it as a meeting place for our classroom library.

This rug will allow students to sit and learn together in a comfortable area, as well as create some additional structure. It will be a great place for them to communicate with one another where we encourage, uplift, and listen to our classmates around us.
