Robert Fulghum wrote a book called All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, and I share his sentiments. Full day kindergarten is the springboard to formal education. I want to make sure the children are provided with countless opportunities to grow academically and socially. We learn to read, write, and count, but we learn by singing, dancing, and doing.
There is never a dull moment in kindergarten.
I teach full day kindergarten in a Title I school in Las Vegas, Nevada.
My Project
Creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and cooperation are critical in preparing students for 21st century careers and life. It's not too early to start giving students opportunities to hone these skills in conjunction with learning the basics of reading, writing, and math.
Long gone are the days where students sit in rows listening to teachers lecture day in and day out.
Education is now focused on preparing students to be life long learners and having them take initiative and ownership of their learning.
The STEM Science Stations, the Design & Build Engineering Centers, and the Building Brick STEM Challenge kit will allow students to follow the STEM Design Loop to ask questions, think of various ways to solve problems, devise plans and design approaches, test their ideas, evaluate their results. STEM challenges give students the opportunity to use a hands-on approach to problem solve and collaborate with peers as they investigate the world in which they live.
