My students need these resources to enhance their learning. We will be adding a new journalism class to the English department, so the journalism books will provide materials to students to understand the world.
My students are some of the best and brightest out there! They continually challenge themselves to succeed, despite some of the circumstances they are facing.
A good majority of my students come from low-income families.
We are a small, farming town and a lot of my students go straight from school to work on a farm. They are endless workers who deserve a great education.
In my classroom, my students are able to escape problems they may be facing and travel to different lands, different time periods, and read good literature!
A lot of my students don't like to read, because they were never read to as a child. My goal is to change their opinions, to find something they love, and to inspire them to appreciate and love the world of English.
My Project
Journalism is now being offered to our students for the first time in years and the students are very excited. Since this is a new class to the curriculum, we have no materials for the class. The workbooks and journalism textbooks will serve as resources for the teacher and student to understand the types of journalism, how to write different pieces, as well as being able to tell credible news stories from fake news. The whiteboards will be used to engage students in cooperative learning and allow students to brainstorm topics, while saving paper.
In the world today, where social media dominates, and so much false reporting is happening, it is more important that ever for students to be able to distinguish the difference between false reporting and factual information.
