My students need durable, long-lasting, easy-to-use jump ropes for many different activities during the school year, especially jump units. Beaded jump ropes help younger students learn to jump rope by listening as it hits the floor.
I am a physical education teacher at a public charter school and I see almost 500 different students each and every week. My students are a very diverse and special group of kids from in and around downtown Oklahoma City. I have worked hard to make sure my gym is a space where my students are excited to come and feel safe and loved while they are here. Not only is PE about learning psychomotor skills, it is also about forming social skills, teamwork, and respect for everything and everyone around them.
My students love learning new and exciting activities that are not only fun, but also make their bodies stronger and healthier.
It is my goal to provide fun activities where each and every student that comes through my doors will find something they fall in love with. My students love to have fun, work together, and stay physically fit!
My Project
Jumping rope is a vital part of cardiovascular and muscular endurance fitness. The exercise we get from jumping rope creates important discussion topics such as heart rate, pacing, and cardiovascular flow. It is also a part of Oklahoma's physical education standards for each student to master by the time they reach the fourth grade. My students have enjoyed using a very small collection of jump ropes in the past years, but they are rubber and easily broken. The number of ropes is dwindling fast. These beaded, segmented jump ropes are durable and stand the test of time. They also make it much easier for younger students to learn to jump rope because it is louder when the jump ropes hit the floor as the cue to jump.
With these new jump ropes, my students will be able to participate in many fun activities such as: Jump Rope for Heart, jumping/hopping units, five components of fitness, station work, jump rope clubs, and many more.
Jump Rope for Heart has always been an exciting time of the year for our students, and having these nice jump ropes will expand the amount of fun activities I will be able to do with them. I cannot wait to see the look on my students' faces when I tell them we have a whole new set of jump ropes to use! Activities such as jump rope stations, long jump rope games, and full class jump rope participation have been impossible because of the lack of ropes in the past.
