Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Transitional Kindergarteners (TK) are eager to learn, but can best meet the demands of STEM while engaged in fun stories they know and love. This could be their chance at learning how to take responsibility for their own learning.
Our school is in a lower socioeconomic area, but don't let that fool you.
Our students desire chances to express themselves academically and creatively. They have the ability, but often need that extra special something that helps them access the curriculum in a meaningful way.
My Project
Imagine if students were able to immerse themselves in their favorite fairy tales, while at the same time tackling new challenges and finding solutions in the realm of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)!
These kits do just that through six classic tales, which includes STEM-focused story cards and building materials.
Children solve dilemmas, work cooperatively, and generate ideas through innovation and perseverance. The opportunities for creativity and critical thinking are unlimited.
Children may have to devise the best way to get the Gingerbread Man across the winter, design a chair even Goldilocks can't break, help a prince scale a tower to rescue Rapunzel, or construct a bridge to keep the three goats safe from a troll. Finally, kids work to engineer happy endings to their fairy tales!
