For the past three years, students at our school have supported the American Heart Association by hosting a Jump Rope for Heart event. We are in need of a few more pieces of equipment to complete our jumping stations.
The students at my school love PE and love to be active.
However, this is the only time, besides recess, that some of them have time to get physical activity. Many of our students do not have access to opportunities outside of school and when they go home, they stay inside and watch TV and play video games.
I have over 600 students, so unfortunately, I don't see them often. Therefore, when I do have them in class, I try to squeeze in as much physical activity for them so there is not a lot of waiting around time.
My Project
Prior to this Jump Rope for Heart event day, students learn to jump using all sorts of equipment including: short ropes, long ropes, double dutch, pogo balls, Chinese jump ropes, hop-it balls, skip-its, and more. I have purchased equipment over the years, but the most popular item, the hop-it balls are showing lots of wear and tear and they need updating.
These Hop-it balls are like the big yoga balls, but they have handles. The handles allow the students of all abilities and ages to sit on them and hop around the gym. This lets them stay active.
By donating to my project, you will be helping students in my PE classes have more access to equipment and the chance to stay more active.
This will allow them to perform better in the classroom and be healthier and more productive students.
