My students need books on CD to build our listening library. I would also like to use the plush as reading buddies for encouragement! Emotions books are tools for teaching.
My classroom is made up of KG-3rd grade students with a variety of incredible abilities and personalities. Every day we learn new things and help each other as best we can.
The students in my classroom have a variety of different abilities and talents.
I have a few that are non-verbal and are learning to communicate, some that are learning what is expected of them as a kiddo in our world, and everyone is learning something new every day!
My Project
When Disney created characters and a voice for the feelings and thoughts, we have the special education teacher in me began jumping for "Joy" (pun intended). My students need books on CD to build our listening library. I would also like to use the plush as reading buddies for encouragement! Often times children with autism, emotional or intellectual disabilities can struggle to communicate when the world around them becomes overwhelming. With these items, I plan to teach my students how to associate their emotions and verbalize or communicate what they feel and need.
By adding to our listening library, students will grow their excitement to read by listening to the stories and be prepared to answer questions with confidence from having used familiar characters. Adding to our read aloud library will also help to us to use stories that we can apply to life lessons, such as tattling and following the rules. It will be an incredible resource and blessing in our classroom.
I know this project will help students in a variety of ways.
First students will be better prepared to communicate how they feel and what they need to feel better. In addition to this, I hope to ignite a passion for reading by providing familiar characters and interests to generate excitement in my students. I also plan to give students reading buddies (plush toys) to excite them to read to a friend! This will be an exciting and impactive year.
