Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of them don't speak English as their first language and come to school without the necessary tools to be successful. The majority of my students speak either Spanish or Punjabi at home.
I would like to provide my students with 2 sets of journals to practice writing.
This year my students have loved being given the opportunity to have journals to write in on topics that they choose.
My Project
My students have enjoyed having journals to write about topics that are interesting to them. They have written about topics like animals, holidays, their favorite part about school, and even written jokes.
However, I have students at different stages of writing.
Some students are working on correctly identifying letters and sounds, while some are ready to write paragraphs. The different journals that I am requesting will help differentiate writing instruction by having students working on what they need to work on. One journal is for writing specific prompts, one is for emerging writers, and the third one is for more experienced writers.
