This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My high school students spent more than a year working hard to balance the demands of home and school in the midst of a pandemic. They babysat younger siblings while logging in for classes, worked part-time jobs after school to contribute to their families, and dealt with the loss of loved ones due to COVID-19.
Back to school preparations may be overwhelming to some families this year as we transition back to our building full time.
I wish to lessen the burden on students and families by providing every student with basic classroom supplies.
My Project
Mathematics is more than a set of memorized formulas. Learning mathematics requires students to identify patterns, make connections, and model real world scenarios. Students are encouraged during class to construct, explore, and record patterns as they 'make sense' of mathematical concepts. The primary tool that can assist them on their journey is a math learning log. Storing everything in their learning log will make it easier for students to organize and improve their thinking as they master mathematical concepts. The math learning log also allows students to actively engage in and monitor their own progress throughout the year.
Your donation will guarantee that every student is ready to begin documenting their new math journey at the beginning of the school year.
Moreover, it will minimize the daily sharing of materials among 150 students as we continue to observe safety guidelines inside classrooms. The purchase of a composition notebook will provide students with the opportunity to organize their notes, diagrams, and practice problems. In addition, the scissors and glue stick will be used to secure handouts, study aids, and other activities. The ticket holders will be used as a dry erase board for brainstorming on group tasks or independent practice during class. It is small enough for students to store in their notebook, providing easy access as needed.
