Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school which is located in East Los Angeles. Most, if not all of my students, are from Hispanic backgrounds. I feel very fortunate to have been able to come back to the school that I once attended as a child. I can honestly say that I love my job. I enjoy teaching. I love the fact that I can speak and teach in my native language.
My students are all eager and determined learners who have challenged themselves to be in a rigorous Dual Language Program.
I teach all subject areas both in English and Spanish. Although it can be challenging at times, I manage to find resources and the time to plan both in English and in Spanish, to alternate the language in the subject areas throughout the day. I have to create resources in both languages because I might need one resource in English for one week but need the same resource in Spanish the following week. I am very proud of my students for committing to such a demanding program. My students know that being bi-literate is the key to opening more doors of opportunities for a successful future.
My Project
Remote learning has been very difficult for many students, teachers, and parents. Students sit for long hours during the day and need a little boost to keep them motivated and going. During class time, we exercise for 20-30 minutes every day. We are very limited in what we can do, but they do know that it is very important to stay active.
Jumping rope will allow them to get up from their chairs and move into a healthier lifestyle.
Jumping rope will strengthen their heart and their lungs and at the same time, tone their muscles and burn fat. We need our students to be strong and healthy to be able to perform well in their education.
