My students need books that will expose them to become more responsible. Utilizing biographies can help inspire students to face their own obstacles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When my students walk into my classroom every morning, I see happy yearning faces with a desire to learn. They are an energetic ball of sunshine in my life. The vast majority of my students come from very low-income homes with a variety of different family structures. We were fortunate that our school and its community was spared by Hurricane Harvey. However, many of our families continue to struggle due to the impact Harvey had on our city. We continue to welcome students who enter our classroom as they continue to recover from Harvey.
My students have goals and every day they are beating the odds to achieve them.
They are grateful for the smallest things in life. As a Title I school, I know that my students will take advantage of any new resource added to our classroom. As a reading teacher, my goal is for every student to cultivate a love for reading and be successful in their journey.
My Project
It is important for my students to get exposed to books that will teach them social emotional skills. I want my students to learn how to handle difficult situations in school and outside of the classroom. The books will encourage students to learn how to develop self management, handle emotions and build relationships. We will use these books in the morning/afternoon read aloud and practice the social emotional skills in our inner circle.
Biographies are important because they inspire students to become determined and overcome their own obstacles.
They will learn about important historical figures that have made a positive impact to society. My students find biographies enjoyable because they offer valuable life lessons and discover new role models. The books will be in my classroom library available for students to read during read to self station.
