My Students

My students are absolutely amazing! They come to school every day excited to learn and grow! Our school and team is a very special place: everyone is there for the same reason, the children!

My students come from all walks of life but most of my student population comes from poverty.

No matter what is going on in their lives, they all come to school with smiles on their faces and ready to learn! I want to give my students many opportunities they may not get at home!

My Project

My 5th grade students love to read like a champ. As a new 5th grade teacher my library is small. In addition, most of my students have very limited reading resources at home. Reading comprehension is so imperative to a student's success in school and in their future. A class set of Island of the Blue Dolphin and Holes will allow us to complete two novel studies in our classroom. Completing novel studies is one of my students favorite things to do in the 5th grade. We explore new vocabulary in the book as we read, and complete enriching literature activities about the novel, such as reports, summaries, creating illustrations and acting out certain parts of the book. It will also help instill a love of reading for my students. It helps for each student to have their own copy so they can take it home and read and complete novel study activities!
