Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 4/5/6 grade special education students who have learning differences and require that their curriculum be delivered in a variety of ways. Math can be a strength but they still struggle with math concepts. Using JUMP Math will help teach the whole class while tailoring to individual needs.
My special education students learn at a slower pace than the rest of the population.
Our school a Title I school and receives 100% free lunch. Some of my students are foster children or homeless. The majority of our school's population falls below the poverty level. Many of my students come to school hungry and without proper clothing.
My students need to experience curriculum through visual, tactile and kinesthetic modalities. Most of my students have auditory processing deficits and require curriculum be delivered in a variety of ways. A balance of depth, careful scaffolding, guided and independent work, continuous assessment and confidence building that JUMP Math offers will provide my students with what they need to truly succeed.
My Project
I have one of the hardest jobs on campus because of the individual needs of my students. I need to differentiate and customize my lessons to meet the needs of all my students. Keeping them engaged in learning can be difficult and it is essential in helping them meet their goals. By reducing difficult concepts to manageable steps, JUMP Math will enable all students to experience success and positive reinforcement that creates engagement and will propel further learning.
Donations to this project will allow my students to have materials that will allow them to access the curriculum with perfectly aligned assessment & practice books and will extend and consolidate conceptual understanding through subtly varied practice.
