Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love the library magazines but they are not allowed to check them out of the school library and I have only a few. Science magazines are their favorite! When I loan them books, they put them into their little plastic baggies. These baggies rip easily and the kids get upset. Sometimes my books come back destroyed from the rain or juice that accidentally spilled in their backpacks which again brings them to tears. Please help them get magazines to read and the book protector bags to protect our books for many years to come!
My school is a Title One school with 100 percent free lunches.
Twelve out of the sixteen students in my room are speakers of another language. The students struggle with learning to read but they are eager and excited to learn. Many come from homes where very little English is spoken so parents are not able to help them. Many do not have books in their homes.
My Project
Scholastic News Magazine is a magazine made especially for first graders to help them learn more about their world. It brings vivid colorful pictures to help them visualize their world around them. The sight words and easy reading helps even the most reluctant reader become excited and engaged. It teaches about different holidays, different cultures, safety rules, about different animals, famous people, states, and many more exciting themes and topics. Students are able to ask and answer questions inside their own magazines. This makes the world come alive to them in the classroom.
Science Spin is an extra magazine with science activities, hands on learning activities, and models to create and learn about their world.
Students are able to take the magazines home each week and keep forever.
Your donation for this project will help our classroom by adding more books and magazines to the classroom for student reading.
Students will get to enjoy the thrill of having their own magazine to take home and keep each week. They will be able to read it over and over again. The book baggies will protect the books and magazines as students transport them back and forth to school.
So please help make a difference in the lives’ of my students by helping them to build a library at home to enjoy.
