This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Music inspires students!" I am developing a middle school music program located in a high-poverty urban neighborhood. We serve over 400 students in grades five through eight, and are a part of the national non-profit organization, KIPP.

Although we have a high interest from our students in joining the music program, it is very difficult to provide instruments, batteries, and more for them.

There is a lot of talent and desire to pursue the arts in this community, but not enough resources to provide these opportunities. The students love to study and practice many instruments!

My Project

My students need AA batteries in order to be able to power up their musical keyboards. By having batteries for their keyboards, the students will able to focus more on learning and less on waiting for their turn to practice. At this point, we have very few resources and are in dire need of energy! By having a functioning keyboard in each student's hands, the potential for musical and intellectual growth will increase exponentially.

Your help will ensure that our students can continue to pursue their musical goals as part of a well rounded education.

As a product of the inner city myself, I understand how much of a positive impact a musical instrument and music education can have.
