This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It is a challenge keeping students engaged in reading groups when you have a scarcity of books. Students often have to share one book between three or more classmates which frustrates them. A collection of books from one of their favorite book characters will inspire them to read.
Our Title I school consists of approximately 650 students in grades K-5.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and are eager to learn. They receive differentiated instruction from highly qualified teachers who strive to meet their diverse needs. The school is located in an inner city community and has a very transient population of students.
My Project
A collection of Judy Moody books will inspire third grade students to read. The author has developed a likable character for kids and integrates Social Studies and Science topics in these books. Teachers can bring this character to life and expand on their instruction of two core content areas. Students will be able to enhance their learning and strengthen their literacy skills. This will be accomplished because they will now have available book resources and can read with other third grade students.
Your support of this project will make a difference in the lives of all our third grade students.
You will give them new books that they have expressed interest in reading and allow them an opportunity to become avid readers.
