Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from the inner city of Springfield, MA and are part of a JROTC program that strives to "Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens". Most of the students were born and raised in Springfield, MA. They are minority kids that have not traveled out of the area very much. The school is located in downtown Springfield, MA, and is a level 5 school. These kids need to work hard for everything they have and are appreciative for items they do have.

My Project

These pull up bars will help our physical training (PT) team prepare for their competitions against other JROTC programs across the state. These will be used continuously throughout the year during our Fitness Friday classes as well as our after school for our PT team. This program gives high school students some discipline, motivation and direction in their life. We have various extra-curricular teams after school such as academic, marching and physical fitness (which is what we are doing now). This gives them the chance to work as a team and increases their chance of success in life after school.

Our inner-city school does not have much of a fitness area or equipment and it would be a huge opportunity for our students to enjoy some decent equipment.

This equipment will assist the instructors in showing the students that hard work can pay off. If they work hard each day after school to improve their pull-ups they will see the improvement after just a few short weeks.
