Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school that is in an at-risk and low-income neighborhood. My students come from diverse backgrounds; the majority are Hispanic or African American. A little less than half of my students are limited English proficient and exceptional education students. Many come from single parent households or families that are in transition. We work very hard to overcome all of these challenges. My students have the exact same eagerness to learn science as their peers in more affluent schools. Unfortunately, the school's resources and technology are very limited.
My classroom is a place where curiosity is cultivated and creativity is fostered.
My students are inquisitive learners who love learning about our world. I strive to make all lessons interesting and engaging so students become more curious about the world and crave even more knowledge. The world's greatest inventions and advancements all started with curiosity.
My Project
Imagine the difficulty in my classroom where I have nearly 30 students each class period and ONE dial caliper. Students are learning to take accurate and precise measurements with dial calipers, but many students end up missing out on the hands-on aspect of the lesson because one dial caliper only reach so many students in one 50 minute class period.
Pictures of dial calipers just are not the same.
Your donations to this project will allow all students the chance to work with the dial calipers; this opportunity will enhance students' measuring skills and provide them with an experience to use engineering tools that they have never used before.
