No two people perceive the world exactly the same, and no two students learn in exactly the same way. My students are as diverse as they come! Our urban school serves a wide spectrum of families.
We are a designated Neighborhood School, so each family's children come to us for special education, no matter what their needs.
Every child is assigned to a regular classroom and receives support both in and out of their room, depending on the plan created with the family.
This year we have greater diversity than ever, with many children having unique needs. Our school has also recently qualified for Title I services, a vast change from pre-COVID times.
My Project
After lengthy Virtual Learning many children struggle with writing skills. My primary students have begun to take pride in creating sentences, adding a title, and spelling hard words. Organizing their thinking is, however, still difficult.
Providing materials that guide them, visualize sequencing, and reinforce sound/letter correspondence is difficult right now.
These self-paced activities they can share with friends will meet these needs. Children are a little tired of the one set we do have, and new materials always inspire little learners. Fresh journals, hands-on sequencing/writing prompts, and supportive sound activities will make a big difference.
